Knife Clinic is a mail-in knife sharpening service based in Dubai, serving all seven emirates of the UAE. To collect your knives, sharpen them, and return them to your door, we need a small amount of personal information. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why we collect it, who can see it, and the choices you have. We have tried to write it the way we would want to read it ourselves: plainly and without surprises.
What we collect when you place an order
When you order a sharpening service through our website, your order is processed through Shopify, the e-commerce platform that powers our checkout. As part of that order we receive your name, email address, phone number, delivery and collection address, and your order history with us (which services you booked, how many knives, and when).
We use this information for one purpose above all: running your order. Your address tells the courier where to deliver the shipping kit and collect your packed knives. Your phone number and email let us reach you if something needs your attention — for example, if a knife in your batch cannot be serviced, or if the courier needs directions.
We never see your card details
All payments are handled entirely by Shopify’s secure checkout. Your card number, Apple Pay or Google Pay credentials never touch our website and are never visible to us or stored by us. We only receive confirmation that a payment succeeded or failed, along with the order amount in AED.
The welcome popup and our marketing list
On your first visit, our website shows a popup offering a 10% discount code in exchange for your name, email address, and phone number. If you fill it in, we store that information — together with the discount code you were issued, the time you signed up, and the page you signed up from — in a separate marketing list.
This list exists for one reason: to send you occasional updates, sharpening tips, and offers from Knife Clinic. It is kept apart from order data, it is internal only, and it is never sold, rented, or shared with advertisers. If you close the popup without signing up, we store nothing about you — only a small flag in your browser so the popup does not appear again.
Marketing communications and opting out
You can opt out of marketing messages at any time, and opting out is always free. Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also simply email knifeclinic.ae@gmail.com and ask to be removed — we will take you off the list promptly.
Opting out of marketing never affects your orders. We will still send you the messages needed to run your service, such as order confirmations, collection and delivery notifications, and replies to your questions.
Who can see your data
If you create an optional customer account, you can see your own orders, addresses, and details — and only your own. No customer can ever see another customer’s information.
Inside Knife Clinic, access is limited to the people who need it to do their job: preparing your kit, booking your courier, and answering your messages. The marketing leads list is strictly internal and is not exposed anywhere on the website.
Sharing with service providers
We do not sell personal data, full stop. We share it only with the small set of providers required to deliver the service, and only the minimum each one needs:
- Shopify — to process your checkout, payment, and order records.
- Our courier partners — your name, phone number, and address, so kits can be delivered and knives collected and returned.
- Our database hosting provider — which stores the marketing leads list on secure infrastructure.
How long we keep your information
We keep order records for as long as needed to provide the service, honour the 14-day satisfaction window, handle any disputes, and meet UAE legal and accounting requirements. Marketing list entries are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, or until we periodically clean inactive entries from the list.
Your rights
You are in control of your data. At any time you may ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct anything that is wrong, or delete your information entirely (subject to records we are legally required to keep, such as tax records of completed orders).
To exercise any of these rights, email knifeclinic.ae@gmail.com from the address linked to your account or order, and we will respond as quickly as we can.
Cookies and browser storage
We keep browser storage light. Our website uses your browser’s local storage for three things: remembering your language preference (English or Arabic), keeping your cart as you build your order, and remembering that you have already seen the welcome popup so it does not reappear. Shopify’s checkout sets its own cookies needed for a secure purchase. We do not run third-party advertising trackers on our site.
